The XXXVIII annual convention of Mexican Association of Equine Practitioners (AMMVEE) was successfully held from October 5-8, 2016, in the historic city of Querétaro. The main discipline of this Congress was dedicated to equine welfare and the congress was in honor of Dr. Aline Schunemann de Aluja who is the pioneer of equine and animal welfare in Mexico. She is an Emeritus Professor of the National University of Mexico (UNAM) and we recognized her tremendous long and consistent fight in favor of working equids. Professors from England, USA, Canada, Spain, France and several Latin American countries came to Queretaro to lecture.
Dr Ruben Anguiano represented the World Equine Veterinary Association (WEVA) as the Regional Ambassador and presented the Award for Dr. Aline Shunemann. Dr. Kathleen Anderson, who is the President of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) attended the the Congress, as did Dr Derek Knottenbelt (Emeritus Professor of the University of Liverpool, UK). Dr Knottenbelt is a great supporter of WEVA and is known globally for his work and pursuits in equine and Equis welfare.
The announcement for the 2017 convention was made and will be held in the city of Veracruz, which is a wonderful venue. We hope to have WEVA lecturers attend in 2017.
