Board Member Dr. Phiroz Khambatta has attended externships in many equine clinics in Europe, Australia and the U.S.A. and has been an active participant at the Equine CE programs at the Hong Kong Jockey Club over the last 8 years. He was part of the Indian delegation at WEVA Brazil, which bid successfully for the WEVA Conference, 2011, in Hyderabad, India. Phiroz was on the organizing committee for that WEVA meeting, and was active in organization and conduct of the intermediate WEVA programs leading up to the event. He has lectured often on various equine Medicine and Surgery topics in India and was invited to speak at WEVA 2018 Beijing, on experiences in Amputation of the distal limb and prosthetics in Mountain horses and ponies in Bhutan. Phiroz practices equine medicine and surgery at the Mahalaxmi Race course in Mumbai and Pune. He is also a partner and surgeon in a small animal veterinary practice in Pune, which he established in November 2017. Phiroz has been on the board of the Indian Association of Equine Practitioners since its inception and am Chairman and founding trustee of an animal welfare organization, The Blue Cross Society of Pune. Phiroz is married to Leila Fernandez, also a veterinarian and a partner in both the Equine and Small animal clinics. They live in Pune, India, with our two daughters, dogs and cats.
